Pros and Cons of Living in New Zealand

So living in New Zealand has been quite an amazing experience and, Mind you, there are a lot of things that I don’t know yet and whatever I tell you might just be my opinionated view on things. But with just the short time I have lived in the country I have experience enough to know that it is a great place to live in. If you ever have the chance to visit and maybe even live in New Zealand, I highly recommend it. So let me tell you about the pros and cons of living in New Zealand.

Let’s start with the good things about New Zealand. Often times when we go somewhere, most of us are wired to look at the bad things about the place. If we keep on concentrating on the bad things in life, we will later on fail to see the good of anything. So here are the Pros of Living in New Zealand.

The people are really nice. It might just be my experience, but people are really nice to you, not just a hello in the streets, real genuine nice people. If you forgot your wallet in a restaurant, the probability of you getting it backs with everything still in it his very likely. When you need help, people will offer it, not as an empty gesture, but a genuine offer of help.

Beautiful nature that will not try to kill you; in New Zealand, there are no poisonous spiders or snakes, and when you go to the countryside you will see nothing but beauty. The beaches are clean and safe; you can even go to specific places where you can swim with the dolphins. You can go and explore, walk through the tall grass, and there are no creatures that will try to kill you.

People are laid back. The country is very relaxed, you can go anywhere and hardly find anyone who is on edge and stressed. Everyone is so chill; you can’t help but be chill as well and lose the tough attitude you carry in the big city of other countries.

There are so many things to do when you are free; the tourist spots are not just for tourist, the beauty and excitement seems to never get old. I mean you’re in freaking middle earth for goodness sake! Go to the shire, or sky dive with some elves or something, maybe even kayak to Valinor. (Lord of the Rings reference)

So I’ve spoken of some of the pros of living in New Zealand, there are more actually, some I might have not experienced yet, some I would rather you experience yourself if you ever come to visit.  Now, let’s talk about the Cons, or rather the one Con I have a problem with.

The country is in the middle of nowhere! From the prices of imported good, to the cost of sending a package to another country, and even the sheer time it takes to fly to and from New Zealand, it is all because of where it is located. If you want a specific imported brands, be prepared to pay a good amount for it, if you want to send a small package to anywhere outside the country you’ll be paying a pretty penny. If you want visit other countries, make sure you have a good playlist on your IPod.  It isn’t all bad though, because it’s so far, the country is very peaceful, so I guess this con has some pros in it.
