About Anew NZ

What is Anew NZ?

Anew NZ is an independent, non-partisan network of motivated and concerned New Zealanders that seek to create a better New Zealand based on the principles in which we believe.

Our Principles

  • Democracy and self-determination.
  • Respect for people, justice and equity.
  • Informing and inspiring people in the search for wellbeing and sustainability.
  • Seeing the world as an interconnected whole: socially, culturally, economically and environmentally.

With these principles we seek wisdom on how to address issues such as:

  • Becoming self-determined and
  • Ensuring our democracy in a globalizing world.
  • Becoming sustainable and
  • Honouring the Treaty of Waitangi as the founding document of our country.

Our Purpose

To create greater levels national wellbeing and sustainability through public and community engagement.

Our Vision

An organisation that offers public awareness of the wide range of issues and opportunities essential for achieving a sustainable future - inspiring holistic change through an informed and inspired public and civil society, working with business and government - for New Zealand to achieve wellbeing and prosperity for all of its people - and the future of all of our children.

Objectives

  • Assist in the development of community and national levels of progress, wellbeing and sustainability indicators.

  • Assist the development of public shared visions, and

  • Assist the process on converting vision to action.

Our Strategy

Anew NZ will contribute to these objectives and serve the process of national renewal through leadership, facilitation and brokering - and through research, the provision of credible information, the development of a Network of Networks, the promotion of dialogue within communities, conducting workshops, the provision of a communication hub website, the development of Progress, Wellbeing, and Sustainability indicators and the engagement in a national shared vision project.

Our understanding of sustainability includes the relationship of the environmental, social and economic sectors as shown in the following figure. The economy serves society and is not an end in itself.  Everything, all of life, is dependent upon a healthy environment.  Sustainability is having health and wellbeing in all three sectors as an interrelated whole.

A view of the community as three concentric circles.

The enonomy exists within the society, and both the economy and the society exist within the environment.

Anew NZ aims to stimulate kiwi innovation and encourage forward thinking. We want to invigorate and engage people to take part in the building of a new New Zealand, through civil society, business and government. We want to elevate national spirit and galvanise a new sense of identity. We need to establish a focus for the use, development and care of our resources, increase our global effectiveness and help national leaders better understand the concerns and ideas of New Zealanders. We aim to develop principled, ethical leadership and facilitate a leadership network that converts vision into action.
